2025 Blood Moon - March 13th/14th

A progression of the Lunar Eclipse.

Every time a lunar eclipse comes up on the calendar, you can bet that I will try and get it. This time it was no different. The lunar eclipse started at 10:00pm Thursday evening and ended at 2:00am Friday March 14th. Totality was at approximately at 11:34pm. I had scoured the weather forecast for weeks before only to find the majority of Oregon was going to be under cloud cover. As time drew near to the eclipse, I had noticed a small window of opportunity of cloud clearing east of the Dalles. So I embarked and this is what I was greeted with.

Totality of the Blood Moon (Lunar Eclipse) on March 13th 2025 at 11:34pm.

We had a few clouds roll in from time to time, but nothing disastrous to photographing the Moon. I had also planned on a Timelapse video from start to totality, but I had a few issues with user error, wind, and some equipment malfunction. I’m currently processing and trying to salvage the Timelapse.

For totality I had used these settings:
f/8 at 1/2 second shutter speed, and 6400 ISO. I like to share my settings for anyone who wants to try and photograph these events. It can be very frustrating and intimidating for beginners or for someone that has never photographed the lunar eclipse.

Here is the sequence from start to totality of the Lunar Eclipse/Blood Moon.

Thank you for reading and following along. I plan on documenting my photography adventures on this blog and give you some insights on what it takes to plan and carry out these adventures. Always feel free to reach out and ask me questions on setting, equipment, and anything else. I love to teach and help others with photography.

Until next time,
Andrew Sambuceto
